About this Event

Martin Christie

Martin Christie is a musician and writer specialising in mixing sung/spoken word with electronic and experimental music. He has released numerous albums previously under the name Poet & the Loops, but more recently simply under his own name. He has also had remixes of his tracks released by Werra Foxma Records and helped to collate a compilation album called Electronic Music Travels with the same label.

Martin is the founder of the all Electronic Music Open Mic (EMOM) movement which he initiated in early 2017 in Manchester. The approach came out of attending traditional open mics which were dominated by acoustic guitarists and a feeling that there was no proper place for electronic/experimental musicians to meet and play their creations.

The initial EMOM nights have inspired regular nights in Bristol, Hull, Nottingham, Stoke-on-Trent, York, London and elsewhere, even in Toronto and Adelaide. There have also been EMOM nights in Amsterdam, Berlin and Sydney.

Sonic Inducer

Qubik

Hailing from Southend in Essex, QUBIKS’s sound is a kaleidoscopic post-house clash of loops and glitchy percussive beats, overlaid with lush synths and subtle melodies. QUBIK first started creating electronic music in the late nineties with collaborations with Matt O’Brien and Alien. Solo tracks followed with several vinyl releases via Off Key Records. QUBIK’s debut album ‘Everything’s Everything’ will be released in the summer.

Masal came together in Leigh-on-Sea after a chance meeting in a charity shop.

Al Johnson has performed and released records as Alien for a number of years now, while Oz Simsek studied classical harp while growing up in Turkey, before joining a jazz band. Since relocating to the UK she has worked with the likes of Viv Albertine and Gazelle Twin. The duo connected over a shared love of electronic and world music and released their debut album Charity Shop in 2020.

2023 will see the release of ‘Tidal Love Numbers’ via Sonic Cathedral on May 19 – the album is a Collaboration with Ride guitarist and songwriter Andy Bell. (See review from Uncut below)

Evey

'Warped melodic textures and complex rhythms from Brighton based electronic composer Evey, improvised using samples and modular synth. Inspired by everything from the electronic sounds coming out of Japan in the early 80s, to the more recent hauntological movement and the minimal experiments of Autechre and SND.

Evey is a multi instrumentalist and composer, and organiser of the Brighton Electronic Open Mic night Patchworks, and founder of the label of the same name, a collective based in Brighton and further afield.

Obscenity State

Obscenity State is an audiovisual artist/electronic music producer and musician that has been performing her shows across London and Europe at venues such as Corsica Studios and Iklectik. Her performance captures the euphoria of club culture whilst drawing from the musical depth of her background in classical music, with moments of tension and release, layering melodic counterpoints and dissonant shifting pitches. Drawing you deeper into the sound, the immersive audio visual live set submerges the audience with her sci-fi inspired imagery and dramatic use of light. At the Signature Brew show. Obscenity State will be playing tracks from her EP Tuning View (available on all platforms) alongside unreleased material.
