"Single-Use Planet" is a powerful new documentary exposing the growing crisis of single-use plastic waste. Set to premiere nationally on PBS during Earth Week 2025, the film takes a deep dive into the Shell Plastics Plant, where millions of tons of raw plastic are being produced — despite a global plastic pollution crisis. Is it possible to curb the production of single-use plastic? The film seeks answers from local citizens, industry representatives, and policymakers in Pennsylvania, then follows the trail to Louisiana, Washington D.C., and beyond—revealing the global stakes of this crisis.
The documentary highlights the fight for environmental justice in Beaver County and Southwestern Pennsylvania, featuring voices from our region, including BCMAC board member Bob Schmetzer and Aliquippa resident Terrie Baumgartner. The film also features Dr. Ned Ketyer of Physicians for Social Responsibility-Pennsylvania, CMU green chemistry pioneer Terry Collins, and Frackland Tour creator Lois Bower-Bjornson, all of whom are working to expose the petrochemical industry's devastating impact on our health and environment.
This film is a must-watch for anyone concerned about plastic pollution and its effects on our communities.
This event is organized by Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community (BCMAC), Food & Water Watch, Three Rivers Waterkeeper, Moms Clean Air Force, and Breathe Project.
