About the Poets:
Dorothy Bentley is a former newspaper columnist, tour guide, and managing editor of newsletters and magazines for nonprofits. She also worked with the Writers' Guild of Alberta and served on their Board of Directors. Her poetry picture book, Summer North Coming, (Fitzhenry & Whiteside) was released in 2019, and YA novel, Escape from the Wildfire, (Lorimer Kids & Teens) was released in 2022-2023. Her chapbook, Nature Divine, was released in January 2025. She’s a winner of the RMWB Words in Motion poetry contest (2016), and she was short-listed for an Excellence in the Arts Award, Literary Arts category, by Arts Council Wood Buffalo (2022). She lives in Foothills Alberta, southwest of Calgary where much of her current poetry is rooted.
Alison Clarke is a poet, fantasy author, and visual artist who is also the Amazon #1 bestselling author of Phillis: A Poetry Collection (University Of Calgary Press, 2020), and the award winning series, The Sisterhood, for which she won the Diversity Magazine award for 2016 Writer Of The Year. She has also won the 2020 Fil Fraser award for her contributions to literary and visual art. In 2024, Alison was awarded a Writer’s Residency in the Champagne-Ardenne region of France. Alison believes that stories can change the world.
Sarah Gibbs is a playwright and poet whose debut collection, THE HUNDRED-YEAR CIRCUS, was published by Frontenac House in 2024. She is a George Orwell scholar and Fellow of the Royal Society of Art (RSA), and holds a PhD in English Literature from University College London (UCL). She lives in Calgary, Alberta, where she works as a professional librarian.
Wendy McGrath is a Métis poet, writer, and artist living in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton). Her latest poetry collection, The Beauty of Vultures, (NeWest Press April 2025) is inspired by and includes the bird/wildlife photography of Danny Miles, drummer for the band ‘July Talk.’ Winner of the inaugural Prairie Grindstone Prize, McGrath’s writing embraces multiple genres. Her most recent chapbook/artist’s book, The Orange Scribbler (Jack Pine Press 2023) is a hybrid work inspired by heirloom family recipes. Broke City, the final novel in her Santa Rosa Trilogy, continues her exploration of the prairie gothic. She is a board member of NeWest Press.
