About this Event
Coptic bound books have a beautiful structure that allows the book to open out flat, making them a joy to work in.
This bookbinding workshop teaches you how to reclaim hard covers from discarded and thrift store books and prepare them to sew a Coptic bound notebook.
You will learn how to make sections of pages to fit your covers and add signature wrappers for an extra layer of interest on the spine.
To finish you will be guided step by step to sew your notebook with a single needle Coptic stitch using coloured linen thread.
We will be using a choice of papers with coloured linen thread, so you will be able to customise your design, making your books truly unique to you.
Some sewing or basic bookbinding skills would be helpful however plenty of one to one time and help is given.
Bring along a small hardbacked book that you'd like to upcycle or choose from the selection available in the studio.
The workshop is held in the Barefoot Bindery studio on the first floor at Fisherton Mill in Salisbury. Participant numbers are limited to 8 to allow plenty of working space and 1:1 support from your tutor, Tamsin Loveday.
Tamsin is a practicing Artist, Bookbinder and Creative tutor with a passion for paper, print and book arts. She is the owner of Barefoot Bindery.
Tamsin advocates creativity for wellbeing and is a trained mental health first aider. Her mission is to help people reconnect with their inner creative spark.
