About this Event

The Educational Justice Institute (TEJI) at MIT and the MIT Lecture Series Committee (LSC) welcome A24 films and The Just Trust, for a special screening and panel discussion of Sing Sing, a true-story film created by and featuring an extraordinary cast once incarcerated at Sing Sing correctional facility.

Trust the Process is the mantra of Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA), the organization at the center of Sing Sing. Join the movement for change by experiencing this transformative film, which pays tribute to the dignity of its members by telling their stories in their own vision, voices, and words.

The Educational Justice Institute (TEJI) at MIT creates sustainable solutions to mass incarceration, social injustice, and barriers to reentry through the provision of higher education and emerging technologies. Through TEJI, the Massachusetts Pr*son Education Consortium (MPEC) acts as a collaborative network of colleges and government agencies offering post-secondary education in prisons. ABOUT THE FILM

From Director Greg Kwedar, and starring Colman Domingo, Clarence Maclin, Paul Raci, Sean San José, and Jon-Adrian "JJ" Velazquez; comes a stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art.

Divine G (Colman Domingo), imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose by acting in a theatre group with other incarcerated men. When a wary outsider joins the group, the men decide to stage their first original comedy, starring an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors.
