SINDHU FESTIVAL DAY 2

Bhagwati Name by

Sreelakshmy Govardhanan

She is trained under distinguished Gurus such as Guru Sri Pasumarthy Rattaiah Sarma, Srimati Vyjayanti Kashi and Srimati Manju Barggavee, in Kuchipudi. She found her mentor at the Kuchipudi village. The mentor has been grooming her for the last six years. She is the first recipient of the Sri Jayadeva Rashtriya Yuva Puraskar for Kuchipudi. It is perhaps for the first time that a Malayali is winning a national award for Kuchipudi.

Bhagavathi Naane -

Every single soul is stirred in their path of realising one’s own self.

Be it through dance, ritualistic practices or even our life by itself, it is a journey that ultimately leads to knowing thyself. This choreography, invoking the Goddess, juxtaposes the travel of a soul towards their eventual convergence knowing I am not separate from the Goddess herself.

Bhagavathi Naane draws its lyrics from traditional folklore and centers around invoking the goddesses within us. The dance crescendos into a rhythmic composition as the devotee enters a trance state through a ritualistic performance.

Naamaa Mhane… an awakening

By Vaibhav Arekar and Sankhya Dance Company

Naamdev is one of the foremost saints from the Vaarkari sampradaya of Maharashtra who popularised the Bhagwat dharma in the 12th century. “Naama mhane…”, far from being an episodic enactment of his life, has evolved as a choreographer’s response to the spiritual awakening that affected Naamdev. “Naama mhane…” choreography uses traditional interpretations, abstract narrations, classical motifs to portray journey of ‘Naamadev’ from being an individual identity to a philosophical concept- spiritual idea. “Naama mhane…” explores and examines various components of Bharatanatyam in its individual capacity to empower the dancer to lift the self and the spectators to an experiential state called ‘bhakti’.
