The Proof of Islam, Imam Ghazali says, "Action without intention is merely exertion; intention without sincerity is ostentation; and sincerity without trueness and realization is worthless…”

Book 37 of the Ihyā' 'Ulūm al-Dīn focuses on properly understanding intention (niyya), sincerity (ikhlas), and trueness (sidq) so that our worship brings us closer to Allah the Exalted and more in line with the beautiful way of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him & his folk).
