Event Description
Join us for an intimate evening of music and healing at Haw Creek Commons, featuring the debut solo performance by singer-songwriter Joel Derrick. Inspired by ceremonial music and personal spiritual practices, Joel's music is a transformative blend of soulful melodies and sacred rhythms, designed to open hearts and inspire the spirit.
The evening will begin with a powerful sound healing session led by Otorongo, whose sonic landscapes are crafted to align body, mind, and spirit. Following this immersive opening, Joel will take the stage for a one-hour set that weaves together his unique influences into a captivating and soulful musical journey.
This is a rare opportunity to experience Joel's artistry in a setting designed for reflection, healing, and connection. Don't miss this special night of music, spirit, and community.
Bring blankets and cushions, mats if you’d like! There will also be chairs available.
Joel’s Bio
I have a passion for sharing music, and over the last several years, have written many songs, inspired by pain, joy, life and death. A big part of my healing journey is feeling worthy to share my voice, and facing a lifelong fear of being witnessed. I like to describe my music as “simple songs from the soul.” I’d be honored to have you join me in celebrating my debut, which is something I’ve been visualizing for a long time…
Otorongo Bio
Award-winning music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and educator Paul Gaeta has over two decades of experience in sound. He’s explored a wide range of musical styles and formats, having released 10 full-length records to date, mainly through his own imprint, Circuitree Records.
Gaeta is a dedicated educator, having led workshops for companies like Ableton Live, Moog Music, and Keith McMillen Instruments. He spent over a decade at Moog Music as a tour guide, educator, and consultant in instrument design. Recently, he’s crafted his own line of bamboo flutes and chakapas.
After hip surgery in 2019, Gaeta’s musical output has been largely ambient, having started a new project, Otorongo, which incorporates his passion for the flute and ancient musical traditions with modern production methods, and is composed with the intention to aid in focused meditation and relaxation. He regularly hosts community sound baths and kirtans in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
