Join Simon Robert Gibson and band, launching the new album Same Ocean Different Sea at Enmore's Golden Barley Hotel, with a special solo guest performance by Alannah Russack (The Hummingbirds, The Aerial Maps).Free Entry
A well-known figure in the Sydney indie music scene, Simon Robert Gibson is best known as a drummer who has spent countless hours holding the beat for Australian bands (Disneyfist, Modern Giant, The Aerial Maps, Lazy Susan) stretching back to the heyday of indie rock in the ‘90s.
In 2020 Simon embarked on his solo career, releasing the well-received The Great Ongoing. He followed it up with Shined Bright The Day, a 2SER Feature Album, late in 2021. Now comes chapter three, the poetic and passionate exploration that is Same Ocean Different Sea.
You can hear the sound of The Lemonheads, The Go-Betweens and many more in the DNA, heartbeat and soul of Simon's expressive indie rock and pop music. The album even includes a beautiful, stripped back version of 'The Outdoor Type', written by Smudge's Tom Morgan and made famous by The Lemonheads.
Highly personal, yet universally relatable, these are suburban modern Australian folk songs. They chronicle relationships, memories, misspent youth in Bondi, and via the infamous 90s Newtown music scene, the life-affirming, shared spirit of music.
