Concerts with a Cause at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge is thrilled to announce renowned organist Simon Johnson in concert on Sunday, October 20, at 4 p.m. Johnson will perform on the celebrated Casavant pipe organ. A highlight of the concert will feature anthems from the Anglican cathedral repertoire sung by the First United Methodist Chancel Choir. Childcare will be available.A voluntary offering will be collected to benefit the Capital Area CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Association. The mission of Capital Area CASA Association is to advocate for timely placement of abused and neglected children in permanent, safe, and stable homes.
Simon Johnson is one of the most versatile musicians of his generation, successfully combining life as a virtuoso organist with extensive work in choral direction, composition, and arrangement.
In September 2021 he became Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral in the United Kingdom, responsible for its world-famous choir. For 13 years he was the Organist and Assistant Director of Music at St Paul's Cathedral, London, and was involved in all the national occasions that took place there, including the funeral service of Baroness Thatcher, the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen and Her Majesty's 90th Birthday celebrations, for which he also arranged some of the music.
