This is a wonderful opportunity to take part in a 3 day silver clay automata workshop. Come and learn how to make your own tiny automata...
An automaton is a moving, mechanical device.
In this case it’s purely decorative, a quirky and enchanting objet d’art.
In this class you will have the opportunity to create a tiny creature or other object such as a 3d heart or flower which will be mounted on a decorative base.
When you turn the tiny handle the main character of your piece will spin around and bob up and down.
In this workshop you will learn…
How to make a cylindrical base to house a mechanical movement.
How to use wood clay to make a former for your main character.
How to use moulds to create decorative embelishments.
How to make a mechanical movement from sterling silver wire.
How to put it all together to create a magical moving objet d’art.
How to patinate and polish back to highlight detail.
Please note some elements will be soldered and some will be glued.
All tools and materials will be provided, but depending on design extra clay may need to be purchased and will be available to students during the workshop.
Some suggestions will be given for suitable main characters these will include a chicken, jelly fish, sea horse, fish, dolphin, dog, cat, flower or heart. Other ideas may be possible but will need to be discussed to establish if it is achievable.
Regreshments:
Ibsley Village Hall is a spacious, bright and warm venue in a village setting. We will have use of the kitchen through out the workshop and I will supply tea and coffee and biscuits.
Everyone will be asked to bring their own lunch along each day as there is no where near buy to buy lunch.
There is a Waitrose in Ringwood town centre which is a 10 min drive away where you can buy lunch and snacks etc
Accommodation:
If you are travelling from distance there is a Premier Inn in Ringwood which is a 10 min drive from the workshop venue ( Ibsley Village Hall).

There are also lots of pubs and restaurants in Ringwood town centre and a Waitrose supermarket to buy lunch to bring with you.
