A length of wire, round mandrels to wrap it round, jeweller's saw, files, hammers, blow torch, solder....... the Silver Chain Bracelet workshop uses some of the simplest tools and materials but at the end of the day you will take home a beautiful piece of unique jewellery, one that you can proudly wear and say "yes, I made this!"
You will learn some of the most useful basic silver jewellery making skills, using them to make each link a different shape, size or texture if you wish. Many of the techniques that we will cover can also be used to make pendants, earrings and much more, and you will also learn how to make different styles of clasps to finish your bracelet.
This workshop is suitable for beginners to jewellery making as it teaches many of the basic skills needed for more advanced skills, however those with previous experience will also find their skills, especially their soldering skills, tested and improved by the end of the session.
14 to 16 year olds are welcome but will need to be accompanied by a paying adult.
Tea, coffee, biscuits and cakes are included in the workshop fee, but lunch is not provided.
10am-4.30pm Saturday 5th October 2024 at Fairways House, Mount Pleasant Road, Southampton, SO14 0QB. Full directions will be emailed.
Materials (sterling silver wire) are available for purchase on the day. The exact cost of the materials will be determined by the size and therefore weight of the bracelet you make and the price of silver on the day, however material costs for an average bracelet is approximately £18-£30. You can therefore make your own bracelet for much less buying one and leave the workshop with the skills you need to make more!
