The name on her 2022 book, "," is S.J. Peddie, not Sandra Peddie. That's because her publisher believed few people would buy a book about the Mafia by a woman. But Sandra Peddie made her publishers an offer they couldn’t refuse. Sandra, one of New York’s premier investigative reporters, had managed several interviews with the crime boss shortly before he died at the age of 104. (It should be noted that his age didn't stop him from hitting on her during one of the sessions.) As a member of Newsday's investigative team (4 guys and her), Peddie has been a frequent winner of awards, including the Silurians President’s Choice award in 2021 for their article "Policing On LI." She's also a Pulitzer finalist and New York Emmy winner for police corruption stories, and often speaks at national and international investigative journalism conferences.
Sandra will be our luncheon speaker at the Feb. 15 luncheon at the National Arts Club where she will talk about her experiences as an investigative reporter in general, and particularly as a woman in a field dominated by men. Has she had a tougher time dealing with cops and other authorities or an easier time?
She became a Silurian member after having a great time at our awards dinner.

On Eventbrite you can either pay for lunch in advance (for you and guests) or just reserve your place and pay at the door. Lunch prices are $65 for members, $75 for guests. You can pay at the door by cash (exact change, please), check or credit card. If you’re bringing guests, make sure to give us your guest’s name. Bar opens at 11:30 for drinks and conversation.

One other reminder. Because we must give a final tally to the National Arts Club at noon on Feb. 13 — the Monday before the luncheon — we cannot cancel any reservations after that time. No-shows will be asked to pay for their seats.
