On August 10th, join the Silk Road Secret Agents for a show like no other: a night of intercontinental travel with Iranian electronic artist Maral and Mediterranean psych rockers Mohama Saz, hosted by Armenian rare groove specialists / record label Discotchari.
Hailing from Madrid and releasing their 5th album “Maquina De Guerra”, Mohama Saz is inspired by the oriental roots of Spanish culture that lead listeners on a journey through North Africa, Anatolia, The Levant and beyond via the musical traditions these places share. With electric saz, acidic synthesizers, and flamenco flare, Mohama Saz’s music evokes the golden wheat fields of Andalucía with melodies that echo to the east and Spanish lyrics that harken back into time.
Currently working on her follow-up album to her Leaving Records debut “Ground Groove”, Maral integrates timeless Iranian melodies with pulsing, electronic rhythms that mimic the sleepless streets of Tehran. Expect to hear live setar, hot cues, unreleased music and more from her boundless vision.
Led by their radio show research, Discotchari are constantly digging up raw musical gems from decades past, produced by artists in diaspora communities and around the world. Their first label release last year was the re-discovery of nearly a thousand seven-inch 45’s still stored in their factory boxes from 1970, containing psychedelic rock produced by Armenian and Lebanese musicians in Los Angeles.
Silk Road Secret Agents is an event series and radio show that brings the values of cultural preservation and exchange into the real world through curated programs where music selectors and artists become ambassadors of international dance and roots music, embedded with traditions that cater to multinational audiences.
