A guided mountain day with a difference. Designed for those who enjoy being in wild spaces by themselves to deeply connect to nature but find the prospect of going into the hills alone a little anxiety provoking.

Unlike traditional guided mountain days, the focus of Silent Steps is not to reach the summit (although this is a nice bonus if it happens). The focus instead is on connection. Connection to ourselves, the wilder world around us and that something bigger.

For a large part of the day, we will be walking without talking, to allow ourselves to step into our own experiences, to allow our busy minds space to untangle themselves and pace out any frustrations from the day/week/year/life. The pace is largely guided by the group but with more than ample permission to go slow. Fast walkers are more than welcome provided that they are open to longer periods of meditative sitting as we reassemble and allow space for all to rest as needed. The walk will be interspersed with a range of nature connection activities to help us to reattune our busy minds back to the pace of nature. There will also be periods of time to connect with fellow walkers throughout the walk, if desired, in a way that helps us to stay connected to the present moment.

Led by an experienced mountain guide, ecologist/field tutor, nature connection facilitator and somatic coach, Lauren weaves ecopoetic storytelling with intuitive guiding to create a walk for deeper connection to self and the wilder world. Having grown up in the mountains of Yr Wyddfa, expect to be taken off the beaten track to allow opportunity for you to leave the human world for the day. For those with a curiosity of what they see around them, there will be opportunity to ask questions about the wild beings and landscapes found on the way.

Phones are not permitted on the walk but may be kept in your bag, switched off. This is an important boundary to maintain the presence of the day. Please talk to Lauren if you feel that this might not be possible for you as there are other walks which would be a better fit for you. Some photos may be taken of the day by Lauren and shared with you if you would like to remember your experiences. This will be done sensitively, taking into consideration those who do not wish to be photographed through this experience.

This day is for you if you like heading to wild spaces for the way it helps you to connect to something much bigger than you.
It is for you if walking is your way of untangling your mind to help you to step into deeper clarity and connection to yourself.
It is for you if you find small talk draining and wish to be in the company of others with permission and agreement to simply share quiet space.

Although the language of the land is Cymraeg, the language of the day will be in English. Cymraeg will be woven into the experience to honour the land that we explore.

The outcome from the day would be to help you to, in the words of Robert MacFarlane, “rinse your ears clean of human chatter … and your mind of human matter”

Practical details:
The day will begin at 9.30 and finish at 5. The meeting place will be provided in the information sent to you on booking along with a kit list.
