About this Event
The great Buster Keaton’s most iconic film, THE GENERAL comes to you as part of Silent Revue’s season long celebration into Planes, Trains and Automobiles! Based on a true event that occurred during the American Civil War, in THE GENERAL Keaton is a train engineer whose job is too highly valued to allow him to enlist in the army. When his beloved train is stolen by Union forces (with his betrothed onboard), he must face off in a locomotive battle to save his vehicle and his sweetheart (Marceline Day).
Mastering daring physicality, Keaton put himself at considerable risk in performing the film’s captivating stunts, which utilized three nineteenth-century trains. Risking life and limb—in the film, as well as real life—Keaton created one of the era’s most beloved masterpieces. A comedy juggernaut, as well as period piece that proves action and thrills in the silent era were one of a kind. Screening with locomotive-themed shorts! - ALICIA FLETCHER
