About this Event
In 1946, the United States began testing nuclear weapons on Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands, which has had devastating and ongoing consequences. Five years after testing started in the Marshall Islands, the US government added a new testing ground: the US mainland.
In the award winning documentary, , Japanese Director Hideaki Ito shares stories of the victims of nuclear testing in the United States, including Mary Dickson, a Downwinder in Utah, and Louise Reiss, a doctor who began collecting baby teeth from other mothers in her community and found that American children had been exposed to dangerous levels of radiation.
Narrated by Alec Baldwin, this important film is crucial to understanding the impact of the US nuclear testing legacy both abroad and at home.
Marshallese Educational Initiative's Executive Director, Benetick Kabua Maddison, will moderate a discussion with Director Hideaki Ito following the film.
