What is ecstatic dance?
It’s a dance/movement practice to explore the feeling of moving your body freely, inspired by sound, though you don’t actually have to move in time with the music. You are invited to move…play…connect…sweat…stretch…unwind…release…improvise…transform.
What happens at an ecstatic dance?
It is a free-form dance practice where participants gather to dance to music without needing to follow the instructions of a leader. In Ecstatic Dance the music is the leader and participants are free to weave their way through the different soundscapes, expressing themselves through movement.
The music encourages a gradual warming up, towards a more energetic sound inspiring a more dynamic flow of energy, which then steadies and slows to become more meditative and restful.
Are there suggested guidelines?
To encourage an authentic experience of your body and emotions, participants are asked to:
* be free. dance how you want. no judgement.
* be present. no phones. no cameras.
* be clear. no intoxicants.
* be embodied. no talking.
