The weather may be challenging us with cold, wet and wind still BUT the wheel of the year is turning and there is joy to be found in noticing nature.
This 3 hour workshop will help to ground you in nature and lift your spirits to help ease out of winter and look ahead to spring.
We will wander gently around the garden and surrounding woodlands, looking for and learning about some key spring plants to forage as the season comes to life. Although many plants still lay dormant, it is a good time of year to start to learn new plants while it isn't too overwhelming! You're then able to notice the subtle changes as the natural world unfurls after winter, building on your knowledge as you go.
You'll leave this experience with foraging inspiration which will be sure to encourage you to get outside, notice nature and add some fresh tasty spring ingredients to your food - benefitting your mental and physical health... and maybe even your wallet too (who doesn't love free food?!).
Nature Keen specialises in activities connecting people with nature, improving wellbeing as well as our relationship with the natural world.
This workshop will include:
- A guided nature walk around Treborth Botanic Garden and woodland
- An introduction to the basic principles of foraging
- Teaching you some key easy-to-identify species that are edible AND some that aren't edible and you need to be careful of!
- A Nature Keen seasonal foraging recipe to take home and have-a-go yourself
- The event will be held outside, although we have the use of a sheltered outdoor pagoda if the forecast is wet.
Participants will need to come well-equipped for 3 hours outside in whatever the weather, with sturdy outdoor footwear and plenty of warm layers.
This event is part of a project that is funded by the The Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) scheme. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Welsh Government
