Berklee's Africana Studies Division is celebrating hip-hop by inducting legendary MC Rakim into the Berklee Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. Rakim is widely regarded as one of the most skilled and influential rappers of all time.Few artists in hip-hop history have had as profound an impact on the genre's lyrical style as Rakim Allah. Universally recognized as a “Master of the Microphone,” he has influenced countless peers and followers. Rakim burst onto the scene in 1986 with longtime collaborator Eric B. and their iconic single "Eric B. Is President." The track marked a turning point in rap, revolutionizing rhyme delivery and setting a new standard for future MCs.
Rakim joins an esteemed group of inductees, including Roxanne Shanté, Kid 'n Play, Edo G., the Floor Lords, and renowned producer and Berklee professor Prince Charles Alexander.
The celebration will feature a performance by Rakim showcasing his greatest hits, alongside performances by students and local hip-hop artists.
