4th Annual Veteran Volunteer Work Weekend on Veterans Day Weekend!Join the AZT VETS (Veteran Engagement & Trail Stewardship) Program, supported by Team Rubicon West Branch and Coronado National Forest Service, for a special Veterans Day weekend event. This year, we’re excited to host the 4th Annual Veteran Volunteer Work Weekend on Passage 11E of the Arizona National Scenic Trail. Together, we’ll make long-overdue structural improvements to Gordon Hirabayashi Campground and potentially work on trail tread near Sycamore Reservoir.
Event Schedule:
Friday, November 8: Meet at Gordon Hirabayashi Campground on Mt. Lemmon. Volunteers will set up shelters, followed by a meet-and-greet, a homemade dinner, and a fireside safety briefing.
Saturday & Sunday, November 9-10: Enjoy breakfast at camp, followed by a quick tool and trail construction class. We’ll work on the trail, with lunch provided on-site, and conclude the day with dinner back at camp.
Monday, November 11 (Veterans Day): After breakfast, we’ll continue trail work for 2-4 hours (weather permitting), gather for feedback, and wrap up with an early afternoon departure.
Details:
Most meals are provided at no extra cost to participants. Pre-registration is required, and we welcome all ages and abilities. However, please be mindful that trail work may involve hiking several miles and engaging in moderate to strenuous physical labor. Registration is limited to 20 volunteers, so sign up today!
This opportunity is for veterans only, providing a space for service members to connect, share experiences, and create new memories while working together on the Arizona National Scenic Trail.
