Sick Kid Fiber Club: Panel Presentation
Join members of Sick Kid Fiber Club for a virtual panel presentation!
Kirsten Anderson, Erica Dirks, Zoe Gladstone, Shannon Houghton, Lauren Leone, Emma MacLean, Jay Stewart will discuss how their disabilities and chronic illnesses impact their creative practices. SKFC is a virtual group that was started in 2023 by Emma MacLean and Lauren Leone. All members of the group practice some type of fiber art (knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidering, etc.) and identify as a "sick kid". Each panelist will discuss what the intersection of disability/chronic illness means to them and their creative practice. Some members create work where disability is the primary subject matter while others have adapted their artistic practices so that it can continue to be accessible. We hope this panel will offer insight into the artistic potential of accessible art making, as well as inspire audience members to explore how they might integrate accommodations into their own creative work, or even start their own sick kid fiber club.
