About this Event
Who is the Man on the Shroud?
Perhaps you've pondered this same question. The Shroud of Turin—revered for centuries as the actual burial cloth of Jesus—is the most important scientific piece of evidence we have for the miracle of Christ’s resurrection.
The ancient linen cloth depicts a faint image of a brutally scourged and crucified man, who was crowned with thorns and pierced in the side. Mysteriously, the image is hardly on the surface of the fabric, acts as a photo-negative, and includes three-dimensional characteristics. The wounds observed on this burial shroud mirror the Biblical narrative related to the life, suffering, death, burial, and Resurrection of Jesus. Join that to a fascinating and eventful history of survival from the ancient world to modern Turin, Italy, there is little wonder why for generations the shroud has intrigued and captivated the attention of so many, believers and non-believers alike.
Come see this incredible exhibit that was displayed at the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis this past summer. (The exhibit was developed by Othonia, part of the Institute of Science and Faith at the Regina Apostolorum University based in Rome, Italy.) It features a life-sized replica of the shroud and other artifacts from the crucifixion, like the nails, crown of thorns, and the Roman flagrum used at the scourging. Informational banners and displays outlined the various studies and facts related to the shroud and speakers will present details on the research methods used to illustrate what the image tells us.
