**Welcome to the birthday bash of the year, Shrewgy's 60th!!!****9:00 PM Los Olvidados** \- One of those legendary punk bands that everyone agreed would put their town on the map- San Jose in Los Olvidados’ case! They followed in the footsteps of many great bands by breaking up before releasing a full-length, leaving studio tapes and a few key, mind-blowing compilation tracks as their legacy of radness for future generations of skaters.
Los Olvidados shambled out of the early 80s punk/skate scene of San Jose, the huge city which anchors the bottom part of the San Francisco Bay and is home to most of Silicon Valley. With Mike Voss (Vocals/Guitar), Ray Stevens II (Bass), Mike Fox (Guitar), and Matt Etheridge (Drums), Los Olvidados had the talent and the song-writing to blaze their way across the mid-80s skate punk scene. Slightly more political than some of their skate rock contemporaries, Los Olvidados kicked musical ass while making a point.
Los Olvidados has songs on Thrasher SkateRock Volume 1 “SkateRock”, Thrasher SkateRock Volume 2 “Blazing wheels and Barking Trucks”, Alternative Tentacles / Maximum Rock and Roll release “Not So Quiet On The Western Front” and on the Alternative Tentacles Los Olvidados release “Listen To This!”
All of the members have gone on to multiple bands, multiple albums, and multiple world tours, but Los Olvidados is where they started on their road to radness!
**10:00 PM Free Beer** \- was brewed in December of 1981. The band was the idea of a young Bay Area Brewmaster that mixed together the hops and ashes of two of the then youngest San Francisco punk bands on the underground scene in 1979/80. The Ingredients consisted of 3/5ths Revenge, 1/5th A.L.A. and 1/5th Innocent Bystander.
Sure, the band’s name was a brilliant way to drive traffic to their gigs, but more importantly, Free Beer’s onstage antics never fell short of delivering the goods, which made this band an integral part to San Francisco’s underground punk scene. Free Beer included teenaged skateboarder/musician brothers Tony and Tommy Guerrero who were just a part of the short list of founding fathers of a musical -&- cultural movement known as Skate-Rock. Punk Rockers that rode skateboards and played music because ‘Nothing else mattered.’
All of the original band members, Mike Cassidy, Dan Magee and Steve Tatum were basically raised on a skateboard and it was the early punk movement and skateboarding that brought these guys together to eventually form Free Beer. The band quickly developed a following amongst its peers of skateboarders and punks. The reunited unit sees Louie Senor behind the drum kit deftly filling the void left by Tatum’s notable absence.
From their powerful instrumental anthem, “Pigs in Space” to the political sentiments of “Premature Enlistment,” and fun drunk rock party songs such as “I Hate Sobriety” and “We can do (Drink) as much as we want,” Free Beer has forever etched its mark in the foundation of skaterock history!
