“SHOWSTOPPER” - The Musical6 consecutive Fridays / 8-9:30pm from March 21st to April 25
"SHOWSTOPPER" is the new musical composed and performed by singer/songwriter and 2-time EMMY-nominated TV & film composer Gary Stockdale, and written with Spencer Green and Matthew Leavitt. This one-man show tells the life story of composer/lyricist Jerry Rockwell, one of the unsung composing legends of musical theatre. (Unsung because he never actually existed!) He is the brainchild of theatre veterans Gary Stockdale and Spencer Green, who created the award-winning musicals "Bukowsical" and "Bumpersticker," produced by John Mitchell.
“SHOWSTOPPER” follows Jerry as he discusses his life and career to an “audience” at New York’s 92Y Theatre. He details the ups & downs, successes & failures, and everything that he sacrificed in his quest to become the ‘Next Big Thing’ as a musical composer on Broadway. Each song in “SHOWSTOPPER” comes from one of Jerry’s own musicals, starting in the late-1960s and going all the way to the present. Some are big & brassy, some anthemic, some jaunty & jolly, and others are introspective. And as he traces the development of his music, influenced and fed by his personal triumphs and struggles, we learn how life and art are inextricably linked.
"SHOWSTOPPER" is playing for 6 consecutive FRIDAY NIGHTS–from March 21st through April 25th–at the lovely and intimate Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks.
