Pehli Tareekh
Hindi, English with English Subtitles (23 mins)
Pehli Tareekh is a tender yet unsettling portrait of young love caught in the web of class, gender, and aspiration. Meera, a 23-year-old homemaker from a lower middle class Delhi household, finds joy in the small rituals of married life such as the nightwear her husband buys her every payday. To Hitesh, 27, it is his way of keeping the romance alive. But when Meera voices her own hopes for a better future, Hitesh’s fragile masculinity is shaken. What begins as silent discomfort soon transforms into insecurity, and control, especially over how Meera dresses and expresses herself. The film traces the unspoken power struggle simmering within a home that appears ordinary, but is on the brink of transformation. Will Meera find the courage to reclaim her space and identity?
Directed by Richa Nanda
The film screenings will be followed by a discussion.
