This February, we're reading a chapbook by Ross Gay & Aimee Nezhukumatathil - just in time for their in-person visit later this month!
About this Event

The Short and Satisfying Book Club led by Georgia Court is for those looking for a shorter read that is ripe for discussion. February's selection is Lace & Pyrite: Letters from Two Gardens by Ross Gay and Aimee Nezhukumatathil, a joyful, epistolary exchange between two friends and poets as they tend their gardens, swap reflections on growth and gratitude, and find wonder in the everyday.
We will meet in person at our store location at The Mark, 117 S. Pineapple Ave. The book club is $10, which includes a copy of Lace & Pyrite to be picked up at Bookstore1 any time before our meeting.
Readers who fall in love with the book will be especially excited to know that both Ross Gay and Aimee Nezhukumatathil will be visiting us later in February for special live events. Joining this month's Short & Satisfying Book Club is a wonderful way to deepen your appreciation for their work before hearing from the authors themselves.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Originally published by Organic Weapon Arts in 2014, Lace & Pyrite: Letters from Two Gardens captures seasonal changes and life unfolding from the perspective of two gardens: Ross Gay and Aimee Nezhukumatathil. What began as an unprompted poem correspondence between the two poets in the late July swelter of 2011 blossomed into a beautiful collection of epistolary poetry.
This reprint of Lace & Pyrite: Letters from Two Gardens by Get Fresh Books Publishing comprises all of its original poetry and includes an interview published by The Margins titled, “Our Wholeness, Our Togetherness: A Conversation with Aimee Nezhukumatathil & Ross Gay.”

ABOUT AIMEE NEZUKUMATATHIL
Aimee Nezukumatathil is the New York Times best-selling author of the forthcoming poetry book, NIGHT OWL (Mar. 2026), and two illustrated collections of essays, BITE BY BITE and WORLD OF WONDERS: IN PRAISE OF FIREFLIES, WHALE SHARKS, & OTHER ASTONISHMENTS, which was chosen as Barnes and Noble's Book of the Year and named a finalist for the Kirkus Prize. She also wrote four previous award-winning poetry collections: OCEANIC, LUCKY FISH, AT THE DRIVE-IN VOLCANO, and MIRACLE FRUIT. With the poet Ross Gay, she co-authored the chapbook LACE & PYRITE, a collaboration on epistolary garden poems. Her writing appears twice in the Best American Poetry Series, The New York Times Magazine, ESPN, Ploughshares, American Poetry Review, and The Paris Review.
Honors include a poetry fellowship from US Artist Fellows, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pushcart Prize, a Mississippi Arts Council grant, and a Guggenheim Fellowship.
