About this Event
Third Annual Shochu on the Rocks
Shochu and Awamori fans! The event you've been waiting for is back! 'Shochu on the Rocks' returns, focusing exclusively on Japan’s traditional spirits, Shochu and Awamori.
We will not only cover the basics of these spirits, the spotlight will be on both classic and rare Shochu styles, including exciting new releases in DC, like Shochu made from sake lees—a technique deeply rooted in Japan’s 3,000-year Shochu history.
Your guide for the evening will be Jake Tennenbaum from Honkaku Spirits, a passionate advocate for Shochu and Awamori. He’ll introduce a wide variety of Shochus, from timeless classics to innovative new expressions. For an added layer of fun, get ready for a DIY cocktail session where you can mix your own Shochu drinks—perfect for impressing your guests at your next gathering!
To elevate the evening, we’ll also feature Kuramoto Ice, imported from over 5,500 miles away. One may wonder what it means to import ice cubes from Japan. Attendess will learn all about this amazing ice. This pristine, clear ice, created through a meticulous week-long process, is the perfect complement to your Shochu tasting.
Guests will also enjoy a variety of bites prepared by the chefs at The Roost, with the chance to experiment and discover which Shochu pairs best with different dishes. This interactive and personalized experience will take your tasting journey to the next level.
Join us for an evening of learning, tasting, and discovery in a relaxed, fun atmosphere dedicated to the rich world of Shochu.
We will start off the event with an interactive mini-pairing session. We will then open the floor for you to taste 15+ various Shochus. All the Shochu you will taste, of course, will be available at DC Sake cō
