Let's start the Shmita year together! You are invited to join Congregation Beth Shalom, Earth Ministry/WAIPL, and our partners for a Shmita Year Opening Festival at Congregation Beth Shalom on Sept. 26 from 2:30-4:30pm. This multifaith gathering will be a joyous time of connection with music, activities, and inspiration for engaging with Shmita values in our lives and communities.
Register to attend at bit.ly/Shmita5782. NOTE: Attendees must register to attend (registration is free).
In the Shmita year we are called to rest alongside the land, deemphasize money, release debts, and equally share the abundance of our landscapes with one another and with wild creatures. Shmita invites us all to re-examine our relationship with the Earth, the Divine, and one another.
Leading up to this Year of Release, Earth Ministry/WAIPL has been partnering with Congregation Beth Shalom to organize the Shmita Project Northwest. Along with regional Jewish congregations and organizations, we are building a larger community working together to elevate Shmita values like rest, sufficiency, and generosity. You can learn more and view recordings of this spring’s Distinguished Speaker Series at https://earthministry.org/the-shmita-project-northwest/
This event will be Earth Ministry/WAIPL’s first return to in-person gathering. We want to assure you that appropriate COVID precautions will be in place and we will be outdoors to allow for open air social distancing. If in-person events are out of your current comfort zone we completely understand – there will be more Shmita programming with virtual options coming soon.
