The City of Charleston has a restrictive 1st Amendment protest ordinance that requires a permit for protests with more than 24 people. When organizers have applied for permits, the city has been putting protesters in far-away places, like Hampton Park, rather than in well-trafficked areas.
At SHL's City Hall protest, we’ll focus on 1st Amendment issues - separation of church and state, press freedom, and freedom of speech and assembly. Come with or without a sign - we’ll have extras.
