About this Event

Assam Charity Trust is staging a cultural event ‘Assam Autumn Festival’ at Midland Art Centre, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, B12 9QH in September 2022. Save the Dates, Sunday, the 18th of September 2022, and join us in our venture to raise funds for the needy in India.

We are inviting the multiple award winner Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC), known for its versatility, for a live performance at the Midland Art Centre in Birmingham. The SCC has performed with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Fitz William Quartet and worked with Bollywood singers like Shankar Ehsaan Loy and Usha Utthup. The choir has a varied repertoire ranging from regional (Assamese, Bengali, Khasi) Indian music to classical and pop medleys for both Western and Bollywood genres.

Before the SCC takes centre stage, we will screen an award-winning Assamese film, Tumi Malala, 'তুমি মাালালা' (आप मलाला हैं), a Roopak Gogoi film with English sub-title which tells the story of8-year-old Nadia and how geo-political and socio-economic issues impact her dreams of being like Malala Yousef and winning the Nobel prize.

Assam Charity Trust is at the forefront of raising funds for good causes in Assam and Northeast India. The COVID-19 pandemic has interfered with our activity but not our commitment. Recently we distributed 15 smart TVs to primary schools in rural Assam (Read Here) to help deliver digital content and efficient learning to the pupils. We seek your support to continue the work.

We appeal to you to pre-register your intention to join the 'Assam Autumn Festival’ this September in Birmingham. We will contact you with a donation link to secure your place in the event (minimum expected donation £45 per person). A part of your donation is eligible for Gift Aid if you are taxpayer in the UK.

All the proceeds from the event will go to the cause of furthering primary education among the disadvantaged community.
