Shifting Power to Save Lives: The Youth Stop AIDS Speaker Tour (BIRMINGHAM EVENT)

The Youth Stop AIDS Speaker Tour is all about empowering young people to make a difference in the fight against HIV stigma and ensuring health rights for all. Hear from passionate speakers from the UK and abroad and learn how you can be a powerful advocate for change.
Speakers include:
Aoife (she/her) is a 27 year old nurse who recently publically shared their positive HIV status. In a short few months, Aoife has gone from strength to strength - appearing on all forms of media and is now a leading voice for women living with HIV in Ireland. Aoife will share her experience of living with HIV and her insight of the stigma existing in healthcare settings.
Joyce (she/her) is a 24-year-old woman living openly with HIV in Kenya. She was diagnosed with HIV in her final year of secondary education and the stigma she exprienced caused her to develop social anxieties and lose a number of friends and close contacts. Joyce is at the forefront of the fight against HIV stigma - she has since taken her advocacy to the highest levels, holding seats on the Global Fund board and Youth Council and the Women 4 Global Fund’s Strategy Working Group.
Max (they/them) is a Criminology Lecturer at Oxford brookes whose research focus is on gender, sexuality and society. Max, living with HIV, joined Youth Stop AIDS to speak on BBC Radio Oxford on World AIDS Day in 2023 sharing their persepctives on how to challenge cross-cutting stigma.
