A trolley tour highlighting some of Green-Wood’s pioneering women and a whiskey tasting with Fort Hamilton Distillery!
About this Event

In recognition of the women who challenged the social, cultural, and political order of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, this trolley tour will highlight some of Green-Wood’s pioneering women and their remarkable stories. You’ll be inspired by Mary Anna Palmer Draper, an astronomer and key benefactor for the Women Astronomical Computers at the Harvard College Observatory; socialite and philanthropist Louisine Havemeyer, who was arrested for attempting to burn an effigy of Woodrow Wilson; entrepreneur Elizabeth Gloucester, whose fortune helped fund John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry; and many others.

Afterward, there will be a 45-minute whiskey tasting with Fort Hamilton Distillery in the Modern Chapel. You’ll also hear the fascinating history of rye whiskey and learn what it takes to start a craft distillery (including the ins and outs of whiskey production and barrel aging).

Fort Hamilton Distillery started barreling whiskey in 2016 when founder Alex Clark embarked on a mission to recapture America’s finest spirits. Based in Industry City, Brooklyn, and steps from the Cemetery, the distillery is surrounded by landmarks of the Revolutionary War, from which the whiskey maker draws his inspiration.
