The SheLA Arts Summer Theater Festival presents FORT HUACHUCA, a new play by Ailema Sousa
About this Event

You saw this play digitally in the 2020 SheLA Summer Theater Festival -- but this July, it hits the live stage! Join us at the Zephyr Theatre for two in-person performances. We may add the option to watch the show virtually in the coming weeks for those who are not ready to come back into a theater yet. Sign up for our mailing list or follow us on social media to get the latest updates.

Set in segregated America, Fort Huachuca follows the lives of five African American women who enlist in the army to train as nurses. They are sent to an army base camp in Arizona, where they embark on one of the biggest challenges of their lives. Universal and real, this story tackles social issues that are still relevant today: racism and sexism. It’s an inside look at survival in the army in the 1940s, when society treated women and people of color as “less than”.

Note that in order to be admitted entry into the theater, all patrons MUST show either: proof of vaccination, or proof of a negative COVID-19 test result in the 48 hours prior to the show time. Patrons will also be asked to wear masks during the performance. These measures are non-negotiable and are implemented for the safety of our staff and performers, who are held to the same testing/vaccination requirements.

At check out, there is an option to add an additional donation. Note that if you want to see the show, you must purchase a General Admission Ticket -- the donation option is for those who would like to leave an additional donation on top of that, to support our programming!

SheLA Arts is a program of SheNYC Arts, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that supports women in leadership roles in the theater. Our programs include Summer Theater Festivals in NYC, LA, and Atlanta; a program for high school students to learn about careers as playwrights and producers; and The Broadway Women's Alliance, a networking program for women on the business side of Broadway.
