Please join SheJumps as we partner with Women of COTA and Trail Sisters of Bend for a day of trail work and learning!Whether running, hiking, mountain biking or exercising with our dogs, hitting the trails is an important part of our lives in Central Oregon. That's why we're bringing together three amazing women-led groups to learn about trail maintenance and to have a little work party of our own!
When: Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 10:00 am
Where: Please join us at Swampy Lakes Sno-Park (Location is subject to change based on conditions or controlled burns. Participants will be notified in advance if location changes).
Cost: Free! (Suggested donation of $5 to SheJumps)
Details: This event will focus on education about COTA and trail maintenance. You'll learn about drainage, sight lines, native vegetation, brushing and so much more about the trails we all use.
Timeline of Events:
10:00 am- Meet at Swampy Lakes Sno-Park
~10:05 am- Introductions and Safety Talk
~10:30 am-12:45 pm Learn as we work on trails
~12:45 pm-Wrap up and thank yous
What to Bring: Come ready to work with sturdy/closed-toe shoes, long pants and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Bring work gloves, eye protection (sunglasses or clear lenses), sunscreen/chapstick, water, lunch/snacks and a backpack to carry your things. WoCOTA will provide all tools and hard hats. This will be a fun day of learning, getting dirty and meeting other trail friends!
Who are the event partners?
Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA) has been focused on the development, protection, and enhancement of the Central Oregon mountain biking experience through trail stewardship, advocacy, collaboration, and education. They build and maintain the trails that we all use throughout the area. The Women of COTA (WoCOTA) was formed to make trail work more accessible for women.
SheJumps is a national nonprofit that increases the participation of women and girls in outdoor activities. Partnering with nature, SheJumps creates educational outdoor experiences for girls and women that nurture growth and transformation.
Trail Sisters is a women’s trail running online journal and community. Their mission is to increase women’s participation and opportunity in trail running through inspiration, education and empowerment. The local Bend chapter hosts trail running meet-ups to get women out exploring the beautiful trail network in Bend and the surrounding areas. The organized runs are fun-run style, with a no-drop policy and an uplifting attitude.
Who can come?: We welcome all women and girls (transgender and cisgender) as well as non-binary people to participate in this event. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian throughout the entire event. Please leave your pets at home for this event.
Parking and getting to the event: Parking is free at Swampy Lakes Trailhead in the summer. Parking can be competitive on weekends, so we encourage you to invite a friend and carpool if you can! There is no public transportation available for this event.
Facility information: There are pit toilets at the trailhead, but we recommend that participants come prepared for no bathroom access for the duration of the event in case we are working farther away from the bathrooms.
Accessibility information: this will not be an ADA trail.

Since this is a free event to register for, participants may cancel at anytime in their Eventbrite account. Please try to let us know if you can't make it at least 48 hours ahead of the event. Optional donations made during checkout won't be refunded.
