Let's welcome winter with a hike to the best sunrise spot in the Southern Black Hills!
BHPFA Program Manager and SheJumps Event Coordinator Andrea Fountain will lead you on the short hike to Big Rock Park and Custer Skywalk, where we will enjoy a sunrise and reflect on the past year. After sunrise, we will descend and have the option to depart or head back to BHPFA’s Headquarters in downtown Custer for coffee and treats.
Meet at the Pagent Hill/Big Rock Park Trailhead near the intersection of 8th and Canal Street at 6:30 am. The out-and-back trail is approximately 1 mile long, featuring 300 feet of elevation gain, and is composed of a gravel surface with some stairs. Please be prepared with warm layers and sturdy hiking/winter boots. Ages 8 and up are welcome; pre-registration is required.
Remember to bring your mug for coffee or hot cocoa afterward! The event is subject to cancellation due to inclement weather.
Facility and Accessibility:
- No skill required.
- The trail is gravel with some metal and wooden stairs.
- Ample, free parking at the Big Rock/Pagent Hill Trailhead near the intersection of 8th and Canal Street
- Bathrooms are not available at the trailhead. After the hike a non gendered bathroom will be avialable at BHPFA's HQ building.

Since this is a free event to register for, you can cancel at any time in your Eventbrite account. Please cancel ahead of time or email the event lead if you cannot attend so we know not to look for you the day of the event! Optional donations made during registration will not be refunded.
