About this Event
We are so excited for you all to join us for our third annual "Empowering Women Through Adventure" Speaker Series at Embark Co-working Space! We decided to condense the series into four events, from January to April. The holidays are a hard time to schedule events as everyone is so busy, so we figured we'd tighten things up and hit the new year each year with four speaker events, each on the first Wednesday of the month (except January's, which will be the second Wednesday due to NY's day). So sign up, get out your calendars and write these dates down!
Event timeline:
For each evening, the doors will open at 6pm and the talks will go from 6:30 - 7:30ish pm. We'll have some beverages to share and raffle tickets for sale with fun items up for grabs! Raffles will occur each occurrence after the talks.
Wednesday, January 8th, 2025 - "Adventures in Coaching - How Instructors & Coaches Keep Us Exploring" - Discover how you can learn and grow as an athlete and adventurer through the use of a trained coach or instructor. Join running & health coach Michelle Poirot, Mt. Bachelor alpine & nordic coach Mary Slavkovsky, personal trainer & yoga instructor Maggie Umberger, and mountain bike coach Emma Maaranen to learn how to up your adventure game - on the slopes, on the trails, in the gym, and on the mat.
Wednesday, February 5th, 2025 - "Women in Wildfire" - Join the women of the US Forest Service & BLM Wildland Fire Management Service to learn what it’s like to be a woman in wildland firefighting. From working on fire lines, parachuting into dangerous terrain, handling heavy equipment, battling fires, educating the public, and developing curriculum to teach kids about forest management & fire prevention, these incredible women have seen it all. Learn more about ways you can help manage and care for our forests, and how we can all work to get more women into the traditionally male-dominated wildland firefighting career path.
Wednesday, March 5th, 2025 - "Reveille & Retreat: Discover How Two Female Army Captains are Empowering Military Women Through Adventure" - Join Captain Dakota Olsen-Harris of the Army National Guard and Captain Kim Liszka of the United States Army/Reserves to learn about the Reveille & Retreat Project, a series of retreats carefully crafted for military women using a blend of healing modalities, empowerment workshops, and personalized development sessions. With a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by women in the military community, their programs are designed to foster resilience, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. Dakota and Kim also created “Dog Tag Diaries”, a podcast series dedicated to sharing the stories and struggles of women in the military. Come along with us as we learn more about the unique experiences of the women protecting our country & our communities and learn how we can all better support them, and each other.
Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025 - “Movie Night: Dirt Pride, The Approach and the Women Behind the Lens!” - Grab the popcorn friends - we are settling in for a cozy double-feature evening of the films “Dirt Pride” and “The Approach”. We’ll be celebrating the “transformative power of building queer community outside” and watching “the athleticism of BIPOC, women, and adaptive skiers & snowboarders on steep heli and backcountry lines in the wilds of Alaska.” We’ll have some film-makers and athletes present for a post-film panel Q&A. It should be the perfect closing evening to our speaker series, with inspiration for spring skiing/boarding and the upcoming biking season!
