About this Event
Join us for SheJumps Wild Skills Junior Search and Rescue, a day camp with Juneau Mountain Rescue on Saturday, June 8th! Girls will learn the outdoor skills necessary to be a part of a Search and Rescue (SAR) team.
This SheJumps Wild Skills event is structured as a full day camp experience. Parents/legal guardians will drop girls off, and then they are split into age-appropriate groups that rotate through the different stations during the day. Throughout the day, girls are taught a range of outdoor skills that are utilized by the SAR team in the field. Girls will work alongside female SAR and SheJumps volunteers to learn more about the many facets of rescue and first aid.
Schedule for the Day*
On the day of the event, you’ll check in at registration beginning at 8:30am and meet up with your team for the day. Teams will consist of 1-2 SheJumps volunteers and 8 girls.
At 9:00 am, we start the day with an all teams morning meeting with SAR, introducing what it is like to be on a Search and Rescue Team, and have a peek at the tools and equipment they use to carry out their work.
From there teams will break out and proceed to the various stations. Stations cover topics could include a variety of subjects tbd on leadership availability and capacity such as first aid, patient packaging and transfer, rescue dogs, rope rescue, and water rescue techniques. There will be no shortage of fun and games too!
Lunch is included in the day.
