Kelham in Monochrome: Black & White Photography Workshop Kelham Island, Sheffield 2 hours – outdoors, accessible, creative
This small-group workshop is your chance to dive into the drama of black & white photography – right in the heart of Sheffield's most atmospheric neighbourhood.
We'll explore the gritty beauty of Kelham Island on foot, camera in hand, chasing shadows, reflections and stories. Whether you’re shooting on a DSLR, mirrorless, or just your phone – you’ll learn how to see in mono, compose creatively, and make the most of tone and texture.
What to expect:
- A guided photo walk with composition tips & live challenges
- Black & white storytelling techniques
- Optional one-on-one support as we go
- Built-in time to reflect, experiment, and really look
Route Highlights:
- Green Lane Works & Little Kelham
- Kelham Island Museum (outside only)
- Ball Street Bridge & graffiti walls
- Cutlery Works alleyways
- Kelham Weir
(We’ll be walking at a gentle pace and stopping regularly to shoot.)
You’ll Learn:
- How to ‘see’ light, shadow and contrast in urban spaces
- Techniques for strong B&W compositions
- Ways to shoot movement, reflections and stillness
- Tips for capturing mood, grit, and atmosphere
What to Bring:
- A camera (DSLR/mirrorless/film/phone – anything goes!)
- A charged battery & space on your memory card
- Weather-appropriate clothes – it’s Yorkshire, after all
- Curiosity, creativity & maybe a spare lens if you fancy
Coffee & Creative Chat
We’ll wrap up at a local café – grab a drink and chat about your favourite shots. It’s a lovely way to share, connect and get feedback.
