Ever wonder where your clothes come from? Find out through Pohick's Sheep to Shawl series, where we will trace the process from start to finish - and invite you to learn how to acquire these ancient skills for yourself. We kick off our series with Lisa Pregent, Senior Manager of Livestock at George Washington's Mount Vernon, who will discuss how the estate's rare breed of sheep are bred, cared for, and sheared. Following Lisa's talk, we will have a brief demonstration on how to turn wool into yarn with a drop spindle as a preview of our next program in March. Wool roving will be provided for attendees to keep if they wish for the remaining programs in the series. Drop spindles will also be available to use while at Pohick.
Next up in this series:
Spinning - We will explore spinning in greater depth and give participants a chance to use both a spinning wheel and a drop spindle (March 22).
