About this Event
Opening Reception: December 6, 4PM-9PM
“She Said He Said” at Eastern Projects Gallery brings together new works by Juliane Beckmann and Eloy Torrez, two longtime Los Angeles–based artists whose creative dialogue spans more than three decades. Torrez presents narrative and surreal portrait paintings shaped by his experiences within L.A.’s cultural diversity, while Beckmann exhibits photography, environmental portraits, still lifes, and assemblage sculptures that reflect her conceptual approach to urban space.
Together, Beckmann and Torrez explore how personal histories, distinct backgrounds, and shared experiences shape their visions of Los Angeles, offering a visual conversation that reveals how artists influence, challenge, and deepen each other’s perspectives.
Join us Saturday, December 6 from 4pm - 9pm for the Opening Reception and Artist Meet & Greet with Juliane Beckmann and Eloy Torrez.

A highlight of Torrez’s legacy—his iconic 1985 Pope of Broadway mural depicting Anthony Quinn in a triumphant, expansive pose—serves as a touchstone for the exhibition. The mural, restored by Torrez in 2017, has become a landmark of Los Angeles public art and a symbol of the city’s cultural richness and Mexican heritage.
Juliane first experienced Los Angeles through her work as a photojournalist and editorial photographer, which led her to examine the city’s urban landscape in the tradition of German fine art large format photography and its people through contemporary environmental portraiture. More recently she started to make found object sculptures, they are almost readymade a la Duchamp, but require some assembly and comment on our society and environment.
