In my series of photographs, I draw inspiration from sculptures of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Each image begins with the model studying the artwork, absorbing its essence, and interpreting it through their pose. This process taps into the silent yet profound language of art, allowing each model to emphasize different gestures that resonate with them emotionally.
Once the pose is established, I refine the scene through lighting adjustments and pose direction, blending the model's interpretation with my own artistic vision derived from the same sculpture. This collaborative approach fosters a dialogue among the artwork, the model, photography, and myself, resulting in a new interpretation that transcends the original medium.
Sculpture and photography share an architectural quality, requiring careful planning and an understanding of lines to convey their messages effectively. Drawing from my experience in architectural photography, I approach capturing models in a manner akin to sculpting, emphasizing form, structure, and the interplay of light and shadow.
Through this process, my photographs evolve beyond mere portraiture, transforming into visual dialogues that reframe classical art through a contemporary lens. This fusion of historical inspiration with modern interpretation aims to create a series where each image becomes a new sculptural expression, resonating with both the timeless beauty of the past and the dynamic creativity of the present.
