Tool School: Fishing 101 is a women-only, hands-on workshop designed to build confidence, practical skills, and knowledge for those wanting to learn the basics of recreational fishing in a supportive and welcoming environment.This beginner-friendly session creates a comfortable space for women to ask questions, try new skills, and gain confidence without pressure or prior experience. The focus is on practical learning, local knowledge, and real-world techniques that can be used independently.
Participants will be guided through:
- Introduction to fishing gear, including rods, tackle, lures, and their purposes
- Understanding size charts and general fishing rules
- How to rig a fishing rod (hands-on activity)
- Squidding techniques using jigs and spears
- Crab pot setup, including how to correctly measure crabs (seasonal demonstration)
- Rules and regulations around crabbing
- Ways to source bait, including yabby pumps, cast nets, herring jigs, fish frames, squid, prawns, and prawns
- How to safely and effectively throw a cast net (practical demonstration and activity)
This session focuses on building skills, confidence, and independence, while encouraging connection and shared learning among participants.
Tool School workshops are practical, skills-based, and designed to empower participants to learn by doing — no prior fishing experience required.
