About this Event

Back by popular demand, after a fun & memorable dance set this past summer, Shauna Devlin is up next as Guest DJ on the Beach! She'll stir up another eclectic ecstatic dance for us on Willows Beach this Sunday Jan. 2nd!

Shauna is a wild, compassionate soul who comes to us from Salt Spring Island. This is her second gig with Silent DJ Victoria; we are feeling blessed and excited to welcome her back. Shauna has been teaching 5Rhythms® ecstatic dance classes since 2005 and founded Dance Your Abilities, a foundation bringing the joy of movement to all ages and abilities. She's also a member of the Salt Spring Dance Temple facilitator collective.

_________

"When we investigate ourselves by moving our bodies, dancing, listening, exploring, especially together, we open up to an awareness of all that we truly are, and all that we are pretending to be: Our stories, our conditioning, our fears, our strengths, our passions, our light, our joy. We reveal ourselves."

-Shauna Devlin

__________

There are no steps to follow-- just let your body follow the music. We want everyone to feel welcomed and safe, so we adhere to current protocols and we welcome all ages, abilities, body sizes, romantic & gender expressions, and racial identities. Currently, masks are worn at headset pickup/checkin time and we dance with 2m distancing. First-timers welcome. Come try something new.

WHERE: Park on Bowker Ave. or in the main Willows lot. Come to the south end of Willows Beach (towards the direction of the Marina); we are on the beach right at Bowker St. (DO NOT FOLLOW EVENTBRITE MAP!) It helps to put 800 Bowker Ave. in google maps.

WHAT TO BRING: LOTS of water or hot bevvies; warm layers, hat, thick gloves like you would to ski or hike in winter; yoga mat/blanket/ sleeping bag if you like to stretch at the beginning or stay on afterwards.

Reserve headsets by sliding scale donation ($20 Sustainer; $22-$25-$30 Supporter; $18 Supported... on Eventbrite (link below) or by etransfer to [email protected] (please remember to put "Jan 2" & number of headsets in your e-transfer message:)

QUESTIONS:

?Will it be too cold?- We don’t find our bodies get cold because we are moving and dress for the weather and we add warm layers as needed. Warm gloves & hat let you dance in comfort. Winter dancing is envigorating and fun.

?I feel self conscious dancing in public. How private is it?- Occasionally the public dog-walk by and barely look at us. Dancers tell me they worried about feeling self-conscious the first time and “it melted within seconds”... and there are quiet nooks to find more solitude in.

?What if it rains/snows?- As long as it is light, misty rain: we can dance with bouffant-sized shower caps provided. If rain or snow is in the forecast, bring waterproof hoods

?What is silent dj? We all listen to the same music wearing high quality stereo headsets. The music is transmitted to the headsets from a laptop or phone via FM radio waves and can travel hundreds of metres.

?No dance experience necessary. Just let your body follow the music and move free.
