About this Event
Speaker: Prof Benjamin King Suttin Woods
In this talk, Prof. Benjamin King Sutton Woods will discuss the core concepts that have driven his research into novel, efficient structures for aerospace applications. Central to this work is the importance of finding structural geometries that make better use of the materials that make them. This central precept leads to a myriad of unusual but promising solutions, from flexible aircraft wings that flap about like fish to unbelievably light but strong composite trusses made on simple winding machines. A multidisciplinary research approach is taken, combining aerodynamics, structures, materials, and manufacturing, while a wide range of numerical and experimental methods of varying fidelity are employed to develop the concepts and show their promise.
