Shaolin Qigong & Zen Meditation Workshop
In this new fun interactive workshop, Darren will offer an introduction to the ancient body-mind-spirit energetic practices of Shaolin Qigong and Zen Meditation. You can expect to learn how to sense Qi energy with foundational exercises like "Cultivating Qi" , "Holding the Energy Ball" , and "Standing (Zen) Meditation" in addition to postures from the famous Ba Duan Jin (8 Treasures / Silk Brocades) and 18 Luohan Hands sets.
Sonik Alkhemy (@sonikalkhemy) will also be providing an immersive and restorative sound journey with Didgeridoo, Singing Bowls, and more!
Darren is a seasoned and passionate Shaolin Martial Arts and Qigong coach with over 12 years of training, study, and performance under one of the world’s highest-ranking Shaolin Warrior Monk Grand Masters at Kung Fu Vancouver. His teaching weaves together Shaolin Kung Fu, Qigong, Tai Chi, and Zen meditation, offering participants an embodied experience of discipline, vitality, and the body-mind-spirit connection. Darren’s workshops are engaging, accessible, and rooted in authentic lineage, inviting students to explore ancient practices in a modern, supportive setting.
In addition to his martial arts background, Darren is a Level 2 certified Sound Alchemist, guided and mentored in the ceremonial and therapeutic use of sacred sound from diverse cultures around the world. His sound practice incorporates instruments such as the Didgeridoo, Conch, Xiao Chinese flute, and Native American flutes, creating immersive sound journeys that support deep relaxation, healing, and inner awareness. He is also a certified KRI Kundalini Yoga Teacher and has stewarded conscious event spaces in Vancouver, including Mandala Studio and Conscious Lab.
Darren has facilitated and co-created sound, breath, and movement experiences at numerous large-scale events and festivals across Vancouver and beyond, including System Reset (Vancouver and Seattle), Emergence NYE, Healing for the People’s Festivals, and Cosmic Sound Journeys at the Vancouver Planetarium. He is a resident Didgeridoo player at Yoga West and a Sound Partner with Klinkara Sounds, supporting the global spread of accessible sacred instruments.
