Each recital in the series has been designed to investigate a distinct vocal style within musical theatre. Across the series, the recitals have examined the relationship between vocal technique and characterization, each functioning as a miniature case study that traces a character’s emotional and dramatic development through key musical moments. This concluding presentation focuses on classical soprano repertoire, featuring selections from Adam Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza, Steven Lutvak’s A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera.
Originally from London, Shannon-Aimeé has worked professionally as a performer in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Since moving to New Zealand in 2008, she has performed with a wide range of companies, including New Zealand Opera, Showbiz Christchurch, The Court Theatre, NASDA, Blackboard Theatre Collective, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Atlas Voices Ensemble, Hwyl Theatre, North Canterbury Musical Society, Enchanting Productions, Centerstage Rolleston and Ovation Theatre.
Her performance highlights include appearing as a featured soloist in the New Zealand premiere of Considering Matthew Shepard, being initiated into the world of vocal percussion in the New Zealand premiere of Steve Reich's Drumming, and performing as a guest in Grammy Award-winning opera singer Jonathan Lemalu’s 2021 concert series.
Alongside her vocal and theatrical work, Shannon-Aimeé is also trains in ballet and aerials, specialising in lyra. She holds a Master of Music with Distinction and is completing her Doctorate in Musical Arts at the University of Canterbury under the supervision of Dr Justin DeHart and Dr Claire Benedict.
