The theme of this dance is SHADOW BOXING!We all have shadows. Some universal and some unique to us. Shadows have many layers and this dance experience is an invitation to explore some of them and learn to hold loving space for them to be witnessed, seen, acknowledged and possibly transformed. Shadows can be things like stories or patterns we play out internally and externally. Things like “I’m not good enough, I hate myself, I mess everything up, I am unworthy of love etc.” Allow yourself to have your OWN experience with your shadows without comparison or judgment and if judgement arises, that’s ok too.
This dance is an opportunity to practice dancing with one’s shadows and feel what’s coming up in the body. Out of the mind and into the here and now. I am working on this right now and am still learning how to dance with my shadows. Been learning about honesty and how suppression of emotions lead to pain to self and others and lies. We are all students and teachers. Let’s explore together how to see our shadows, be present with them and extend compassion. Being honest with what’s coming up. Let the dance guide us in moving with the shadows.
In this experience before the dance, there will be an invitation and option to shadow box and rage with your shadows or other emotions that arise and reveal themselves. You are allowed to be uncensored. Respecting yourself and others. Honoring what comes up and holding yourself and taking responsibility for your shadows without self blame and shame.

Tickets for the dance event are $20 (Venmo or PayPal @lexamaxdi or cash at the door). $5 from each ticket will be donated to All Art Works!
All are welcomed to join in this dance! Let your intuition guide and show up if called.
We will begin the journey with a meditation/grounding, intuitive ritual and brief sharing circle. After, the dance will commence and close with a sharing circle.
About Ecstatic Dance:
It's a free form dance, with no choreography. Simply intuitive movement. The dance playlist creates a wave of rhythms to facilitate journeying. The intention is to form community connection and connection with one's body/mind and soul.
Ecstatic Dance Guidelines:
-This is a substance free event. Please show up as you are.
-No photographs or video recording is permitted, unless the whole group consents.
-No verbal communication on the dance floor. Feel free to leave the dance floor if you need to speak with someone.
-You may dance with or interact with others during the dance but provide clear nonverbal communication to say yes or no to engage with another. Honor your needs!
-Have fun, respect the collective space and yourself and listen to your body!
*EVERYbody is welcome, regardless of ability. This event is a supportive space to move your body as much or as little as you'd like. Listen to what your body needs throughout the dance and feel free to honor its needs.
River/Alexa's Bio:
Dance has been a soulful companion throughout my life. I first discovered ecstatic dance in the Red Woods of California in 2019 and became inspired to share this embodied, community driven and holistic practice. It has been a gift to host and co-create events in Lansing and Traverse City, Michigan, along with British Columbia, Canada. Ecstatic dance offers organic body movement, feeling waves of e-motions and connecting in a space that is supportive and liberating. Dance feels like home and sharing it is a calling and return to love.
