About this Event
Performers from Chicago collective Manual Cinema, a theatrical powerhouse reimagining puppetry by blending techniques from animation and film, will offer a free shadow puppetry workshop. No experience needed, and adults and youth ages 12 and up are welcome.
Space is limited to 24 participants, and registration is required for the hands-on participatory component. Observers are welcome and no registration is necessary.
In this 90-minute interactive workshop Manual Cinema performers share the techniques they use to create “live cinema” shows, from story ideas to full production. Participants will have an opportunity to work directly behind the screens (in silhouette) and with the overhead projectors and puppets to create narrative pieces in small groups. The workshop finishes with sharing your brand-new, original story to the larger group for discussion.
The company performs “Frankenstein” at Modlin Center on Feb. 1 at 7:30pm. Workshop participants will receive a promo code for a buy one, get one discount. Tickets and information at: modlin.richmond.edu.
Presented by the Modlin Center for the Arts at University of Richmond.
