About Anthea Ong:

Anthea Ong was a Nominated Member of Parliament for the 13th Parliament of Singapore. In her term as NMP between 2018–2020, she spoke at every parliamentary sitting delivering 36 speeches and raised 120 parliamentary questions including championing on behalf of youth activists and sex workers, proposed a national suicide prevention strategy, conducted a public consultation on the mental health landscape, made recommendations for closing our digital divide and advocated for greater work injury compensation and other forms of support for migrant workers (you can find all her speeches on her Medium account and the Wikipedia that her supporters set up for her).

Anthea is a full-time social entrepreneur, having founded and co-created several ground-up initiatives/impact businesses, including Welcome in My Backyard, Hush TeaBar, the WorkWell Leaders Workgroup, A Good Space, Playground of Joy, and Project Yoga-on-Wheels. She also served as the president of the Women’s Initiative for Ageing Successfully (WINGS) from 2010 to 2017, which helps women embrace ageing with confidence, and was the Founding Board Member of Daughters of Tomorrow, a registered charity that provides individualized coaching to vulnerable women.

Words from Anthea:

"I often say that this book is officially my most-neglected project because we literally started the production process when I was appointed NMP! :) I remain amazed and grateful that we still managed to do two print runs of 1000 copies each, and contributed the net proceeds to SOS, Children Wishing Well, Caregivers Alliance and also to efforts for the Rohingya refugee children in Cox's Bazaar, Bangladesh and Malaysia.

When I started thinking about the book at the beginning of 2018, I was crystal clear that it must be a manifestation of all that matters to me. That it must be a gift to the readers especially in making them feel less alone, more empowered and therefore more hopeful about their place in the world. It would be a journey of unearthing who we are, and who we are to each other as well as to the trees and planet. Hopefully, the atypical wood-cover book that's one part memoir, one part life coaching and one part overstory of trees, found its gift and use with the 2000 readers. Let's cast this net of love and awareness wider and farther with this podcast. "

Spreading love to everyone out there. x
